Drinking and Your Health

Tuesday

Pepsi Addiction by John Barnes

There is great debate about what effects drinking has on your health.  One of the warning about alcohol is that it is  metabolized extremely quickly by the body.  Unlike foods, which require time for digestion, alcohol needs no digestion and is quickly absorbed.
Recently researchers found that women who had as little as one drink a day boosted their risk of cancer of the breast, liver, rectum, throat, mouth, and esophagus.   While other studies show that a drink or two a day can have a possitive affect on heart health.

While the experts disagree on some answers, they do agree that no one who has or had a problem with alcohol dependency should drink.  A friend of mine, who lives in Atlanta, was talking about  Atlanta alcohol rehab and the treatments available with someone who is experiencing difficulties in this area.

Treatment centers for drug and alcohol abuse have made great strides in the last few decades.  Atlanta drug abuse rehab centers in Georgia offers great programs and much needed follow up.

The subject of addiction has long been of interest to me.  While I have never had any inclination to turn to drugs or alcohol, I do have an addiction that is just as strong.  It is my addiction to food.

Weight Loss update - Isagenix shake and cleanse

Friday

Things have been going good with my commitment to lose weight and get healthy in 2011.  In years past when I have made the determination to make major changes I have failed.  This year has been different.  I made the decision and have followed through with that decision.  And I feel great.

One of the biggest helps to my success has been the ease and nutrition of the Isagenix products.  I love the way they taste.  The products have such good nutrition that I feel they help me stay on track.

I have lost 44 pounds in 6 months which I am very happy with.  The main reason that it is not a bigger number is the amount of times I have eaten more than I should.  For me this is a good thing.  Normally I would have gone off the program long ago.  What pleases me so much is the fact that I can have the cheats and still get back with the program and continue to lose.

The slow weight loss is good at my age (52) because it gives my body a chance to catch up the changes.

Isagenix Day 25 - Dealing with Cravings

Wednesday

Today I was dealing with cravings - I was not really hungry, just kinda wanting something sweet.  I indulged with an Oreo cookie, and I am actually glad I did because it tasted so bad to me.  It was so sugary sweet an bad tasting.

It really makes me feel like things are really changing.  My taste buds are changing.  I don't think I will be craving cookies again for awhile.

I intend on doing a cleanse day tomorrow and really hope that I actually do two days back to back, like I did in the original 9 day cleanse.  I will keep you posted.

Isagenix - Day 2 with the Isalean shake - great weight loss

Saturday

WOHOHO .... I am really excited. I will put the disclaimer on that results are not typical, it is water weight, etc, etc.... but I don't care.

I am feeling great and not hungry and I have lost 5.8 pounds in one day!! No, that is not a typo and I will take it - even if it is all water weight - I have to lose the water before I can lose the fat.

Isagenix - Day 1 of my new diet - shakes, nutrition and make money

Friday

Well the first day went much, much better than expected!  I weighed in....ughhh and then had my first Isalean shake, which is tasty and quite filling.  Then I took the metabolism booster. They have this great product called the Natural Accelerator which you may experience:

  • Natural weight loss
  • Reduced appetite
  • Improved muscle tone
  • Reduce unwanted inches
  • Improved energy
  • No stimulants – no jitters

I think the Natural Accelerator is a key component to get your metabolism revving.   I had another shake in the afternoon along with another accelerator.

For supper I had salmon, sweet potatoes and a green salad.  I feel satisfied and have NO cravings at all.

Atkins Diet - low carb day 7

Monday

So it is day 7 on the low carb lifestyle.  I tend to call it a diet but it has to be a lifestyle.  This is my 4th attempt in the past 20 years - 3 times before I have gone on the Atkins diet religiously for 4 months and didn't cheat at all.  Each time I have lost 45 pounds.  At that point, for some reason, I would go back to eating carbs and slowly gain the weight back.

This time my goal is to make it a lifestyle and not go off the program.  Of course my mini goal is to break the 45 lb barrier.  If I can do that  When I do that I will feel so much better and mentally feel successful.

I read a lot of blogs and forums on the Atkins, South Beach, Protein Power or other low carb diets and I have seen where some people have a one time shot at losing with the program, and when they go off and  come back at a later date, they do not get the same fast results.  Fortunately this has never happened to me.  I have lost 7 pounds in the first week and am thrilled.  I think the repeat dieters might be a little to liberal in their food choices and learned a little low carb cheats from the first time around.

I have to be careful though.  I know from experience I cannot go by "net carbs" - this is when they take the actually carbohydrate grams and subtract the fiber grams and come up with the net carbs (ex: 10 carb grams - 7 fiber grams = 3 net carbs).  If I count this way I usually don't gain, but I don't lose either.

Other people, however, like my mother, lose good by counting "net carbs".  So if you are doing the low carb lifestyle experiment and see what works for you.

I do as a treat occasionally have an Atkins bar (tastes like a candy).  If net carbs work for you, the prepackaged snacks and baked good are a great help - you feel like you can have a treat.

Low Carb Eating & Day 8 of the Beck Diet

Saturday

I am on day 5 of eating the low carb way, and today I am not hungry at all. That is great - but the one problem I see is that I am not eating enough.  I have a pork roast in the oven and it is smelling great, so I know I will enjoy eating that tonight, with veggies and maybe a little cheese.

I am down 5 lbs and am getting my energy back.  I did my exercise on the gazelle because it is a great low impact exercise and fits in well with the low carb, high protein eating plan.  It is actually an exercise that I have been able to continue to do.  I plan on working with my hand weights later as I watch tv.
I watched the biggest loser last night and I sure can relate better to what they are going through.

The Beck diet Day 8: – Create time and energy

In order to be successful at dieting, you must make the time to devote to shopping, planning and preparing meals, exercising, and the other aspects of improving your life.

I have been doing this by cooking, stocking the cabinets with protein and other low carb foods, exercising moderately for the first few days at least, and reading tons of blogs and articles online about the low carb lifestyle.
