What do thin people do that I don’t do?

Friday

Watching people around me that are thin, I wonder what do they do that I don't do.

One thing I have noticed when going to a buffet style meal is that they only get one plateful and then a small dessert. I tend to get two platefuls because I want my money's worth.

Another thing is they seem to find any excuse to move. They hop up and get this and do that, or plan their weekends to go hiking. I, on the other hand, conserve every step and moving is a chore.

My slim friends weigh everyday. I try to avoid it like the plague. My friend, Mary, says she can judge how she did that day by what the scale says.

They get uncomfortable with that full feeling and I don't feel satisfied without it. That is why they don't wear their "all you can eat pants" to the buffet - the pants with the elastic waist.

Looking in Mary's pantry there wasn't much "good" stuff and the little she had looked pretty stale. She did however have fresh fruit in a bowl and green bags of veggies in the fridge.

One of my friends eats some of the same foods day after day. She finds it easier so she "doesn't have to think about food". - wow wouldn't that be great?

The biggest thing I discovered - they don't diet - two of my friends, Mary and Sue, both say that when the scale moves up or when they are feeling heavier, they simply cut back on the food for a few days.

So I guess when I think that my thin friends are "effortlessly" thin - it actually is a lot of conscious work.

My husband and 2 sons are thin. They eat a wide variety of food. "Healthy" to total "junk". They do not eat if they aren't hungry, then leave food on their plate, and they don't use food to feed emotions.

My good friend is skinny minny. She drinks real coke, eats lunch out, and never exercises. She eats small portions and leaves food on her plate when she is full. I asked her one time..."how do you do that?" She said.."what"?
.."leave food on your plate?" She looked at me kind of strangely and said..."I'm not hungry anymore."

Wow...can we trade brains please??

Hmmm. Well some of your friends points are valid. I don't think you need to weigh every day to be thin, in fact if you're trying to lose weight it might be detrimental, since you tend to fluctuate day in/day out.
I think the above comment that mentions intuitive eating would be a good starting point. It's ok to like feeling full, just not over-full. And it's ok to eat two plates at a buffet, if you're that hungry, but if you're full after the first plate, stop after the first plate.
And yeah fresh veggies and fruit are great foods to have around.

great points - why i am trying to stop at one plate is because I am more mentally hungry - after salad and main course (so really 2 plates :)
I didn't weight today either.
